Hi Dawn,

Edna Lima IS a Mestra from Senzala, the first, I believe, ever.

You are correct that she is a Mestranda, but only after she join Abada and Mestre Camisa.

Edna Lima is not a mestre. She is a mestranda. The mestranda or mestrando is ranked below a mestre.

Hey I'm just a teenager, not quite so fit, but I really am wanting to learn Capoeira. Just wondering about some tips on what I should do to get started.

To Pete:

There are no capoeira classes in Bucks County at this time. Your best bet is Center City or South Philly. Call 215-923-9500 ASCAB Capoeira (www.phillycapoeira.org) in South Philly or Vai Capoeira in Center City

Hi,

Would you be able to direct me to someone that teaches Capoeira? I live in Bucks County (north of Philadelphia) and have been having difficulty finding instruction.

Thank you

thanks for the support and the great partnership! HEADS UP needs to spread the word about the power of capoeira and the great things that happen when we pursue the potential that we each have inside. thanks for helping us do both!

Danny that was some great advice! I´m always amazed at how well you remember songs and rhythms and it´s nice that you are sharing your wisdom! =) hehe love you ^_^
I believe I will have a bit better perception on the music and lyrics now that I understand more portuguese. I´m definitly not a pro and i don´t know that much, but I think knowing what one is singing about would help a lot rather than the words just being words that you have to remember. Being able to just sing them without thinking what the next word is before it comes out of your mouth..just letting it be natural. It also gives the music and roda more energy, I think, depending on how you feel about the words of the song. If you know the difference when you were singing about the death of Bimba or about someone in the roda whining like a little kid you would sing the songs completely different, but i guess thats also the rhythm that tells you that, but not always. So, anyway, i think, when you do find a song you want to learn ..try to translate it and understand what it´s about..then practice it, knowing what it means! This is something I want to work on and do to help me with capoeira songs...=)
Pois bem, saudade gente! muito saudade!
abraços

Hi! Thanks for responding =D When I said "link" though, I actually didn't so much mean a link to comment on this post, but a link to the source of this article! I.e.:
http://thecapoeirablog.wordpress.com/2007/06/05/how-to-get-better-at-capoeira/
I know the introduction already says it's from another site, but it also makes sense/is just polite to specify which site and link to that site, so the person who wrote it actually gets the credit (also, this particular source site is a great place to direct other capoeiristas to for more information/articles, as well)!

Well lets see, my opinion is. It's not alot of people's fault learning music in port. is intimidating and it takes time. You have to just take the initiative and work through the language barrier. Things that help me alot was the lil. capoeira book by pipoca and i still use it to this day, no joke. I would take it to school almost everyday and instead of paying attention to the teacher i looked at the lyrics. lol (don't advice that) but it's really hard to learn a song that you don't know how the rhythm goes. So your best bet is to get a capoeira CD one of the best that i think would work really well would have to be Mestre Bigodinho, I think it was like one of his first Cd's. But listen to it, if you like a song that you think wouldn't be to hard go over the lyrics like a crazy person. Give yourself really good sleep and the next morning for me at least i would remember some of the important parts of the lyrics and then i would just keep working on it until i got it. So try that out, don't be afraid you guys all can do it. and it doesn't have to be Mestre Bigodinho's CD try it with any one you like. If you can't find the lyrics it's best to ask someone then to just forget about it. And if we can't find the lyrics then move on to another song their's plenty of songs out there that are really good. and no worries about the other song you will find the lyrics from someone or something someday. well that's what i think much love and keep training hard.
